NEW FRENCH AMBASSADOR VISITS THE BAHAMAS
On Thursday, May 21, 2009, His Excellency Marc-Olivier Gendry,
Ambassador of France to the Commonwealth of The Bahamas with
Residence in Jamaica presented his Letters of Credence to His
Excellency Arthur D. Hanna, Governor General, at an official
ceremony at Government House. In his address to Ambassador
Gendry, H.E. Mr Hanna complimented the Alliance Française for its
promotion of French culture and language.

On Tuesday, July 7, 2009, former President, Mme Nathalie FEIX
SCOTT paid a courtesy call on His Excellency Arthur D. Hanna,
Governor General of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas. Mme Feix
Scott was accompanied by Mr. Thierry Boeuf, Mr. Dominique
Lefevre, CEO of SG Private Banking in The Bahamas and actual
President of the Alliance Francaise, Mr. Francis Dimitri, Vice
President, Alliance Francaise and Mme Italia Watkins-Jan, Treasurer
and Administrator, Alliance Francaise. Mme Feix Scott outlined the
Alliance's efforts to promote French in The Bahamas through culture
and education.

The Alliance Française des Bahamas is a non-profit organisation dedicated to the
promotion of the French Language and Culture. It is manned by a team of
volunteers, Bahamian, French, Canadian and Swiss, all francophones, who are
committed to sharing their love of the French culture and way of life with the
Bahamian community.
The Alliance' s goal is to promote the French language and culture through language
classes, preferably taught by French native speakers or highly trained, bilingual
professionals. In addition to language classes, cultural activities and events are
planned on a regular basis and are detailed on this website.
The Alliance Francaise des Bahamas is a Centre d'Examen (testing centre)
for the DELF and DALF. See details here

GALETTE DES ROIS - OPEN HOUSE
On January 27th, members and friends of the Alliance Francaise met for the
traditional Galette des Rois which was prepared by chefs Stéphane et Olivier.
The King and queens of the evening were crowned upon finding the traditional
"feve" in their galette. All of the little ones present were fortunate enough to be
crowned.

LANGUAGE CADET
PROGRAMME
On Thursday, March 4th, Alliance Française
member Mme Murielle DIMITRI,
professional French dancer participated in
the Ministry of Tourism's French Language
Cadet programme.
She conducted a dance class in French for the
cadets at the C.R. Walker Senior High School.
Murielle was introduced in French by Mme
Sheena Newton of the Ministry of Tourism.
Ten students participated and enjoyed
themselves as they learned the basics of Rock
dancing. Murielle was enchanted by the speed
in which the students learned the steps,
counting and following her instructions in
French. BRAVO les cadets! Bravo Murielle!
Thanks to Francis as well who was a willing
dance partner!

Au cours d’une mission aux Bahamas les 12 et 13 avril, l’Ambassadeur s’est entretenu avec de
nombreuses personnalités bahaméennes, dont S.E.M. Brent Symonette, Vice-Premier
Ministre et Ministre des Affaires Etrangères, M. John Delaney, Ministre de la Justice
et M. Alvin Smith, Président de la Chambre des Représentants.
Il a également remis à Mme Irène Graham, Consule Honoraire de France aux Bahamas
de 1988 à 2003, les insignes d’Officier de l’Ordre National du Mérite lors d'une réception
offerte par M. et Mme Alec Head à Lyford Cay. (cf ci-dessous). Photos: Eric Rose

| FETE DU 14 JUILLET FRENCH BASTILLE DAY DINNER Wednesday, July 14, 2010 The Alliance celebrated the French National Holiday with a casual evening of fine dining and wines at the Balmoral Club, Sandford Drive, in the company of the Honorary French Consul, Mr. Dominique LEFEVRE and members and friends of the Alliance Française. Special guests included Sir Arthur Foulkes, Governor General and Lady Foulkes, H.E. Louis Harold Joseph, Haitian Ambassador and Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, H.E.
