ALLIANCE FRANCAISE'S ADMINISTRATOR ARRIVES IN RIO DI JANEIRO TO PARTICIPATE IN THE ETATS GENERAUX DES ALLIANCES FRANCAISES DE L'AMERIQUE LATINE ET DE LA CARAIBE
The Fondation Alliance française, based in Paris, France has organised a General meeting in Rio di Janeiro, Brazil on November 28-30, 2011.
The meeting is a unique occasion aimed at bringing together the Presidents and Directors of the Alliance Francaises located in 35 Caribbean and Latin American countries as well as local Brazilian and French personalities to work together on common issues and themes.
Thanks to the Fondation Alliance française in Paris and the French Embassy in Jamaica, The Alliance Française in the Bahamas will be represented at these meetings by Madam Italia Watkins-Jan.

La Fondation Alliance française organise à Rio de Janeiro les « États généraux de l’Alliance française - Amérique latine et Caraïbes » les 28, 29 et 30 novembre 2011.
Cette rencontre est une occasion unique de réunir les présidents et directeurs des Alliances françaises de 35 pays sud-américains et des Caraïbes ainsi que des personnalités locales et françaises, pour travailler sur des problématiques communes.
Les États généraux de l’Alliance française - Amérique latine et Caraïbes se proposent d’engager une réflexion sur des thèmes aussi divers que la diversité linguistique, l’attractivité des langues latines (en particulier du français et des pays francophones) dans la mobilité internationale des étudiants, ou encore l’apport des associations culturelles à la société civile en Amérique latine.
C'est par ailleurs l’occasion d’apprécier les évolutions du réseau le plus ancien et le mieux structuré d’Alliances françaises dans le monde qui compte actuellement 233 établissements. Chaque année, près de 190 000 étudiants suivent des cours dans les différentes Alliances et ce chiffre est en augmentation constante.

DELF AND DELF PRIM CANDIDATES RECEIVE DIPLOMAS FROM FRENCH CONSUL AT AWARD CEREMONY
Candidates who passed the DELF and DELF Prim French exams in May and June 2011 received diplomas on Friday, September 30th at the Alliance Française. Mr. Dominique Lefevre, President and Consul honoraire distributed the diplomas, assisted by Mme Stéphanie Gauthier, Alliance professor. Candidates ranged from 8 yrs to 50+.

STUDENT DOES HIGH SCHOOL COMMUNITY SERVICE WITH ALLIANCE FRANCAISE
Miss Stephanie Shayevitz, a high school student at St. Andrew's school is presently doing her High School community service at the Alliance Francaise des Bahamas.
She will learn the role of the Alliance Francaise and assist in its efforts to disseminate French language and culture in The Bahamas.
ALLIANCE MOVES TO NEW LOCATION
The Alliance has moved to a new location at Ocean Place, West Bay Street. This is two doors before the Thai Restaurant (formerly Dicky Mo's) heading East. All activities will be held at the new location effective September. We are counting on your support to help us flourish at this new location.
BASTILLE DAY ENJOYED BY ALL!
The Alliance Française celebrated the French national holiday on July 14th at the Balmoral Club, Sanford Drive, with members and friends.
Mr. Dominique Lefèvre, Honorary French Consul of France to the Bahamas was the special guest and gave his annual speech. He was joined by members of the Diplomatic and Honorary Consular corps who enjoyed the evening over a gourmet meal and wine.
Music was provided by Adrian d'Aguilar and his group Jazz Etc. O.L.G.A. French Grant Recipient Creates Blog of his Stay in France
Kyle studied French for 4 weeks at the Université d'Été in Boulogne-sur-Mer, France from July 18-August 12, 2011
Kyle Dorsett, was the first recipient of the French Exchange Grant awarded by the O.L.G.A. Foundation. Mr. Dorsett will be a third year student at McGillUniversity, in Montreal,Canada, and is a graduate of St. Augustine's College in Nassau.

ALLIANCE MEETS WITH MINISTRY OF EDUCATION AND FRENCH TEACHERS
The Alliance Française recently met with the Ministry of Education's Modern Language Department to inform teachers of its vision for promoting French language and culture in The Bahamas.
Ms. Donella Davis, Head of Modern Languages at the Ministry and teachers from several public and private schools discussed with Mme Italia Watkins-Jan the different possibilities of working together to stress to to the youth of the Bahamas the importance of mastering at least a second language.
Mme Watkins-Jan took the opportunity to distribute promotional material for the French DELF examinations.
The Alliance Française is the official testing centre for The Bahamas.
Information was given about the new OLGA foundation which will enable a student to study French in France this summer.

Après une longue analyse de tous les clichés, le jury a finalement rendu son classement le 12 octobre et a désigné Manuel ARAYA de l’Alliance de Marcos Juarez (Argentine) et Sam LI de l’Alliance de Penang (Malaisie), comme les deux grands finalistes* ex-aequo.




Le second prix est attribué à Enrique LOPEZ ORTEGA de l’Alliance française de Queretaro au Mexique.
